In the last month, I have been really privileged to see four top class theatrical productions of outstanding quality. It is such a pleasure to be part of this great art scene in Britain. Travelling a lot, I often wonder whether people in this country realise how fortunate they are in having such a rich and plentiful supply of arts and artistic endeavour. The quality of acting is way above what is on offer in countries I visit frequently, such as France or Austria.

At the beginning of the month, I saw 'Legally Blonde' at the Savoy Theatre in London. The show moves at an exciting pace involving a cast that can dance, sing and act with equal brilliance. The wit is sparkling - no wonder with lyrics and music by Nell Benjamin who has won a 2011 Olivier Award as well as Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations for this production. Carley Stenson who plays Elle Wood, will be known to many of you as Steph Cunningham in Channel 4's 'Hollyoaks'.

'Sweeney Todd' which was on at Chichester's Festival Theatre, completes one of their most successful seasons for many years. I was there on the opening night. When one enters the theatre, street sweepers are already on the stage as part of the action, and so one is into the spirit of the production even before the show begins. There is a very strong cast: Michael Ball gave an excellent performance as Sweeney Todd, but it is Imelda Staunton as Mrs Lovett who is outstanding. That minute woman has such presence and her voice and timing are unbelievable. Treat yourselves - run to see her in London when the show appears there!

Next time I will tell you about my visit to the Glyndebourne Touring Company's recent performances in Woking.

I love to hear from you too.

Meet you soon again.

Liesl
